Electroacupuncture for chronic musculoskeletal pain, trigger point release, myofascial release

Electroacupuncture (EA) in Weatherford, TX: Dr. Heather Wright provides electroacupuncture to patients looking for chronic pain relief, trigger point release, and myofascial release.

Electroacupuncture works by using two needles in each meridian (acupuncture point) then connects to a machine that passes a small electric current through the needle. Generally performed in two cycles of five sittings each (10 sessions) at 2-day intervals. Patients may feel a slight momentary sharp sensation as each needle is inserted. After connecting the electrical wires and after turning the current up gradually, may feel a slight ache or buzzing sensation that has been described as feeling pleasant in most cases.

Electroacupuncture for inflammatory and neuropathic pain

The basis behind acupuncture is that the healthy functioning of the body is controlled through a system of channels under the skin by the flow of “qi” (pronounced “chee”). Qi can be also be translated as “energy”. When qi flow is blocked or weakened, it can lead to pain, illness or other conditions occurring within the body. Acupuncture stimulates both sensory nerves under the skin and the body’s muscles. The stimulation allows the body to produce natural pain-relieving endorphins. These naturally-released endorphins are the substances most responsible for the beneficial effects of acupuncture.

Electroacupuncture uses electrical impulses to enhance the healing properties of acupuncture. It stimulates the points linked to symptoms to help restart the flow of qi.  Electroacupuncture activates the nervous system to alleviate inflammatory and neuropathic pain.

Here’s how Electroacupuncture works

  • We will evaluate your symptoms and select points for treatment
  • A needle will be inserted at the treatment point and another needle nearby
  • Once the needles are inserted to the correct depth, electrodes are connected to the needles to an electroacupuncture machine
  • After the electrodes are attached, the machine is turned on. Electroacupuncture machines have adjustable current and voltage settings. Low voltages and frequencies are used at first and may be adjusted during treatment
  • The electric current pulsates, alternating between the two needles
